Out of the box is a game made for the Asylum Jam 2014 with 8 other students.   THE GAME HERE   Asylum Jam The Asylum Jam is a game jam that takes place near Halloween period during 48H. The purpose is to create a horror game and explore the genre without negative mental health or medical stereotypes. There is no limitation of size for a team and no need to sign up for participate.   Out Of The Box My roles : – Game Designer – Level Designer – Create the Menu on Unity We were two game/level designers, two programers, 1 sound designer and 4 graphists. With my game designer colleague we established a basic gameplay loop, behaviors of the box, of the player, of the innocents and of the monsters, a list of signs & feedbacks and a list of animations and sounds for the other members of the team. We produced 5 rooms to have enough modular places and build them on Unity. To help the programers, I created the main menu on Unity.   The Project : In horror games, danger often comes from the environment. In Out Of The Box, we wanted danger to come from you like this the NPCs observing you and fearing you. Finally, danger does not really come from your avatar but a kind of extension of it : The Basket. Summary : The Basket is your enemy, the box is your weapon; keep it hidden but don’t let it eat you ! In Out of the Box, you are stuck with a dangerous creature that you will have to preserve and hide from the other foes… but sooner or later, it will get hungry. The more hungry it gets, the more restless it becomes. If it doesn’t feed on others… it will feed on YOU. In Out of the Box, your goal is to take revenge, the means are in your hands. Explore a ghastly bunker, find your target and kill him; but beware, no one alive should know… what’s in the box. The Basket : The Basket has two main states : Replete and Starving. Of Course, the starvation is something progressive that becomes more and more urgent in the time. To make the player understands this evolution, the Basket gives more and more signs : it wriggles more, talks more and becomes more aggressive. All these elements make noises, so you are more locatable if the basket is very hungry. The loudest sound is the one that the basket makes when it eats someone, so be careful of where you do it!
