Source Magique, a serious game

Source Magique, a serious game

Posted By on Juin 16, 2013

A serious game created in partnership with MoJOS. My roles : – Producer – Game Designer – Graphic Artist – Programmer I made the final presentation, including a ppt and a video, at the e-virtuoses event, a serious game convention.   The Project : Source Magique is a project that uses kinect : it’s a serious game for the rehabilitation of people who have had a stroke. We were a team of 4 game designers students. We’ve decided of our main intentions together. After that I created the gameplay loops around 4 mini-games on magic theme. Why this theme? To create a parallel between rehabilitation and learning magic : more the patient becomes a famous wizard, more he progresses in his rehabilitation. It’s also because magic universe speaks to the whole family and the patient can play with them to advance in the game story. All minigames are based on the same principle : get to a point and stay or drag to another one. Thanks to our exchange with MoJos team, we were able to adapt difficulty to our target. For example, at the beginning of the rehabilitation, patient can’t easily move an arm and its fingers so the first interaction had to be in the middle down of the screen. Each students were in charge of one mini game, its design and programming on flash. With an other student, we took care of graphisms. Here are some prototypes :         Software : – Adobe Illustrator – Adobe Flash – Microsoft PowerPoint – To communicate : Skype, Facebook and Google Tools (Agenda,...

Gluttony, Tribute to Doom

Gluttony, Tribute to Doom

Posted By on Mai 18, 2013

An exercise where we had to create a level on 3Ds Max in hommage to Doom and make a 20seconds video. Gluttony from Julie Anselm on Vimeo. The Project : I wanted to create a new world with new enemies while remaining in the gameplay and graphical style of Doom. So I took the original story and I decided that the portal didn’t open to the Hell but to one of the seven deadly sins : Gluttony. The gummies invaded levels, making obese your colleagues and sticking to you until you’re suffocated. I used some original textures of the game that I changed to give a chocolate or sweety impression.     Gluttony levels from Julie Anselm on Vimeo. Software : – 3ds Max – Adobe After...

Steam Mill, an UDK Map

Steam Mill, an UDK Map

Posted By on Avr 18, 2013

This map is the result of a level design and level building exercise on UDK 3 produced in april 2013.       My roles : – Project communication (documentations and schemas) – Placed Materials & Static Mesh   The Project : This map for Unreal Tournament 3 is the result of a level design and level building exercise on UDK. We were 4 students working on this project. Steam Mill is a 6/10 players map for Team Death Match mode. The main concept of this map is to create a vertical arena where it is totally impossible to stay motionless. We created some tricks to force players to move. The main idea is to keep the whole level in movement. In this purpose we made a big wheel with apertures inside separating the two teams spawn points. Players have to move with the wheel to aim at opponents and can’t stay in front of apertures without being killed. We also designed big steam cannon on the centre of the map. This cannon is constantly rotating, spreading killing steam around the map. Players have to move near this steam to catch bonuses but can’t stay close forever or they will be killed. One last idea is to make platforms on the top of the map to encourage sniper use (if there are snipers, other players have to be in constant motion). But has we wanted all players to move we conceived some dangerous platforms. These ones are elevating when a player is staying on. Using this trick, sniper players can’t perform more than one or two shots on the same platform or they are squished. Even snipers are forced to move and there is no “camper problem”. You can learn more about this map by downloading this explanatory PDF (texts in French only) right here.   Software : – UDK – 3ds max – Adobe...

Purple, a TF2 Machinima

A Machinima created in a team of 5 students in march 2013. Purple from Julie Anselm on Vimeo.   My roles : – Film editor – Sound Designer We produced the scenario and the step outline together.   The Project :   A forbidden love gave birth to something never seen before… On the first part, we wanted to play with the balancing system required for video games associate to fear of change and fear of foreigner. Just a little change can disturb all the game and it’s sometimes something that you didn’t see at first sight. It’s also a part that shows gregarious nature of people in a situation of fear. On the second part, we briefly talk about an unfair choice : choose between his mother and father. We can also see the fact that we take ways which are already traced and which don’t let us the right to choose our own path. On the third part, it’s pessimistic : Changes can happen only if people are opened to it and involved in it.  This is our first draft for Purple : Purple, Animatique V1 from Julie Anselm on Vimeo.   Software : – Source Filmmaker – Adobe After Effects – Adobe Premiere –...

Beyond Objects : Frigo Club

An artistic installation achieved in february 2012.   Software : – Arduino card – Processing – Photoshop – Audacity Closed Opened Goal : We had to divert the use of everyday object and insert a interactive dimension. We worked in team of 4 members. The project : We chose to take the fridge because it already offers an interactive action with its door and its opening / closing, like a surpise box. We played with the curiosity of the visitor : teased by the night club music coming from the fridge, he wants to open it and seeing what happens. Unfortunately, when the visitor opens the door, the music stops and he gets a telling off by vegetables. When he closes the door, the fun is comming back.   Making Off...
